Clinical Interests:

Yousif Ahmad is an Interventional Cardiologist who specializes in complex coronary artery disease and valvular heart disease. He has specific expertise in performing the most complex and high-risk coronary intervention procedures including for chronic total occlusions (CTO PCI), as well as performing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) for patients with severe aortic stenosis. Prior to being recruited to UCSF he was the Director of the Complex and High-Risk PCI (CHIP) Program at Yale University. He is one of the only physicians to have completed dedicated Fellowships for both Complex and High Risk PCI (Columbia University) and Structural Heart Disease (Cedars-Sinai Medical Center).

Research Interests:

Dr. Ahmad’s research into coronary and aortic physiology saw him awarded a PhD from Imperial College London. His thesis focused on the interaction between coronary hemodynamics and aortic stenosis and this work lead to him being awarded the American Heart Association Samuel A. Levine Young Clinical Investigator Award, the EuroPCR Young Investigator Award and the American College of Cardiology Young Author Achievement Award. His ongoing research interests pertain to improving outcomes for patients undergoing percutaneous coronary and valvular procedures, and he is renowned for his expertise in utilizing meta-analytic methodology to pool data to inform clinical practice. He has served as the Principal Investigator for multiple clinical trials within Interventional Cardiology and has published over 125 peer-reviewed manuscripts in leading journals including The Lancet, Circulation, JACC, JAMA Internal Medicine and the European Heart Journal. He has authored several book chapters and is regularly invited to speak around the world at leading Interventional Cardiology conferences.
